TL;DR: how serious is shifter malfunction?

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Bighorn, 50,000 miles.
Last week I stopped with the truck off but radio on for about 30 minutes. Truck won’t start, but battery indicator is normal, all lights, thinking it’s not long enough to drain a battery.. chalk it up to an older battery slowing losing cranking juice, bget a jumpstart and head home. Drives normal all week.
Today I stop for 30 minutes in a parking lot. Truck cranks but won’t start. Last few days I had been doing forum research on the problem, a lot of people point to issues with gear indicator knob and sensors failing to recognize you’re in park. I press brake and can’t turn knob out of park, totally jammed.
I use the gear override process from the manual — stick a screwdriver in the hole under the steering column. With some force, I can finally clunk out of park and through the gears but the gear knob is NOT happy. That leads to a bunch of angry messages on the screen: put in park, automatic gear override (I think that’s what it said) etc. At least now I can start the truck. But once it’s running, I can’t shift out of park. I can turn the knob hard and clunk the knob around, but the light stays on P. «Serivce shifter» message, engine light on.
Ended up getting towed, used the emergency manual transmission override in the dash to get into neutral. It’s headed to the shop now. Just curious who else has experienced this and if anyone has an estimate about how big and how expensive this problem is. Trying to prepare myself. Thanks for reading.
Edit for those interested: the actual shifting mechanism broke inside. I wasn’t given any other specific terminology, but the linkage between the gear knob and internal shifting broke. Was told they have never seen it before… which is alarming but also hopefully not indicative of a larger system fail. The cost to replace would be $600. Luckily it is covered under warranty so I will just be paying $100 deductible.
On another fun note, while on the tow truck «a rock got kicked up» and smashed my back window in. Tow company says they will not pay as it is a roadway hazard and I need to pay through my own insurance. I am opening a claim against them. Seems fishy. They didn’t even call me, the garage did. So that is the next fun thing to deal with!

Поставил прям на разборке, машина завелась, чек ушел… и через секунд 30 сново сообщение «Service Shifter»

В общем, пока в разочаровании, что это может быть? Тоже был плохой шифтер? Мужчина на разборке сказал что первым делом замени блок абс, у меня по нему горят все ошибки, иногда погасают. Так же на додж форумах вычитал что это может быть из-за аккумулятора. Хотя машина вроде стабильно работает и заводится тоже.

Или может я не так его заменил? Нужно ли его адаптировать и сбрасывать ошибки через диагноста? И кстати, мне дали блок без верхней ручки, я поставил свою, может ли из-за нее быть ошибка?

Hello TRX Brethern ! On occasion while driving I will get a chyme with the service shifter coming on. All seems to be working well, I can both use the auto and manual shifters. The message lasts for seconds and disappears. I have noticed it on bumps a couple of times ( loose fuse?) anyone having the same issue or advice?

Have you checked your fuses are all seated properly? That or a loose connection. Take it in if you can’t find a loose fuse.

If it comes up again look at the leds on shifter. If any of them are malfunctioning that message will appear.
