I would be grateful if anyone could possibly advise as to how I can resolve the following errors which I am encountering using Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit running on Windows7 SP1 64-bit.
I receive the following error whenever I tried to view the settings for any mail accounts through File > Info > Account Settings or through the Mail control panel. I also receive the same error when trying to view the settings for any
data files:
«an unknown error occurred: Error 0x80040605»I have also tried to repair the pst and ost using scanpst as well as deleting the ost file and restarting outlook. I would also appreciate it if you could advice how can I compress the ost file as it does not have the setting option when I I tried

I am using Outlook Express 2013 and am running windows 7 and internet explorer. Last week I removed a search engine and after that I started getting

There is no such product called «Outlook Express 2013», would you confirm whether you are using Outlook 2013 or Outlook Express? Please note they are two different products.
In addition, what kind of search engine did you remove? Could you tell me more about it?
There are some suggestions regarding the issue that you can try:
1. If you are using Outlook 2013, click FILE -> Info -> Account Settings -> Download Address Book. Download the address book again to check the result.
2. As the issue occurred after you removed the search engine, it may have also removed/corrupted some Office components, go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features to repair the installation of Office, check the result.
3. Based on the error code, it may be caused by a corrupted Outlook Profile, go to Control Panel -> Search «Mail» and open it, add a new profile to test if it works fine.

Despite being a well-made and reliable application, Microsoft Outlook is not error-free. The application can experience some issues and errors such as Microsoft Outlook Error Code 0x80040605. This error can occur when you try to access your email account and you might also encounter this error if your computer has an issue with its network connection.
The first thing you can try is to force close any Microsoft Office applications that you have running. Afterwards, run a repair or a troubleshoot. This is done by going to Apps & Features, then choosing your Microsoft Office version or patch, and choosing «Modify/Repair.» Wait until the process is finished before trying to relaunch Outlook.
The error may also occur simply as you’re trying to access the information of your current email account. To solve this issue, try seeing if the right profile is selected in Outlook. The profile that you’re using to access your email should be the one that you’re logged into, and the profile should be correct.
This error is also caused by an issue with the database server of your computer. This issue can also occur if you’re trying to log into a non-standard account, or a different one from the one that you use to access your email. If this happens, try logging into your current account first and then switch to another one. If this does not work, try connecting with a different computer and seeing if the issue still happens.

Why did I get error 0x80040605?
Windows Update continous fails to search for Updates or cannot install them. The source of this problem could be various things as
> Windows Registry
> Windows Filesystem
> Internet access
> Windows Update service
> File corruption
> Misconfiguration
> Adware
> Virus and Malware
However, if you’re technically savvy, you can try the steps below:
1. Click Start and start typing on your keyboard for «services.msc»
2. In your search results «services.msc» should show up. Open it with a click.
3. A new windows will open containing all Windows services on your system.
4. Search for «Windows Update»
5. Right-click the «Windows Update» and then click Stop.
We will now clean the Windows Update temporary cache folder:
1. Hold your windows-key pressed and hit «R» key simultanous.
2. A small new windows will appear.
3. Type %windir%SoftwareDistributionDataStore in this new window and click OK.
4. This will open Windows Explorer on the correct location.
5. Delete all contents of this folder. (Hint: Use Ctrl + A to select all files and folders)
Now we will start the Windows Update Service again:
1. Switch back to the windows Services.
2. Locate Windows Update.
3. Right-click on it and choose Start.
If the problem still persists, you can run the System File Checker (SFC) utility. This handy in-built tool will check your filesystem.
1. Click Start and start typing on your keyboard for «cmd».
2. In your search results cmd should show up with an black icon.
3. Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
4. If you are prompted for the admin password, enter the password and click OK.
5. A new completely black windwos will open. You can type commands directly into this window.
6. Type sfc/scannow and press Enter.
7. This process will take a long time. You can minimize this black windows and work on.
Come back to the black window after a time and check if the process finished.
As soon as the SFC process finished, restart your computer. After the restart you search for Updates again.
You are still facing the same issue?
1. Restart your computer.
Next thing is to clean Windows Update download path. These steps are only for expirienced user! If you mess up your computer with Regedit, you could loose your files! Take care or use a professional tool to investiagte your computer.
1. Hold your windows-key pressed and hit «R» key simultanous.
2. A small new windows will appear.
3. Type regedit in this new windows and hit Enter.
4. In the new windows you have a navigation on the left side. Use it to navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate
5. Once you found it, search for WUServer and WIStatusServer in the right hand pane.
6. If they are not listet we cannot clean the download path. Othwerwise delete both.
7. Restart your computer.
Try to search for new Updates again.
You are still facing this issue? I think this is not an usual problem and your computer should be checked by professional.
