A number of users report their LG phone being stuck on the firmware update screen with “Do not disconnect USB” message. Since the screen is frozen, it is difficult to try and fix anything or know what is going on. Below we have enlisted 5 fixes for the issue that can help unfreezing the phone from the firmware update screen.

Fix 1: Soft Reset

The easiest way to troubleshoot the problem of your LG Phone being stuck on the firmware update screen is to do a soft reset. Press the volume down and the lock button together for a while to force restart the phone. This should unfreeze the phone from the firmware update screen.

Fix 2: Battery Pull

Remove the battery while the device is plugged into a laptop, computer, or the wall. Insert the battery and power it back on after a few seconds of being unplugged. A battery icon with a red exclamation point should appear.

Remove the back cover’s plastic snap. To access the battery, unscrew the small screws and remove the plastic cover. The battery’s terminal can be unplugged at the left-most top corner, where a flat, short cable emerges from the battery. Simply slide your fingernail under the small plug to remove it. Remove the battery from the phone and wait about 10 seconds before reinstalling it.

Fix 3: Safe Mode

Using Safe Mode, the phone can be started without any third-party apps or programmes and at its original default settings. Disabling and eliminating problematic applications is a helpful step in diagnosing an LG phone stuck on the firmware update screen.

If an app on your smartphone is causing issues and is preventing the phone from starting properly, you can use Safe Mode to disable that app and gain access to the phone so you can remove or uninstall it, reboot, and then try the process again. There is no unnecessary data loss as a result of this method of backup.

Fix 4: Drain the battery

One thing you can do to remove the phone from the firmware update screen is to drain the battery completely. This will force the phone to shutdown. Next, restart the phone and plug in the charger. You should see the battery charging and the phone screen removed from the firmware update screen.

Fix 5: Wipe the cache / Dalvik cache

Using the Android System Recovery tool, try to clear the cache partition on your phone. You may have to use Google to find out how to access the system recovery tool on your specific LG smartphone if, like with Safe Mode, you are unsure how to do so.

Wipe the Check out the Advanced menu options under the CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery) tool and select the option to wipe dalvik cache and then confirm it if necessary if you recently tried to flash an updated ROM to your phone. If your Android is stuck on the firmware update screen, it’s possible that it’s trying to use an older Dalvik cache.

Other issues and fixes for LG phone

Below we have listed other issues that are often encountered by users of LG phones, especially the older versions. We shall also take you through possible fixes for the following issues.

[FIXED] LG Phone freezes and becomes unresponsive

If the LG phone freezes up frequently and the touch screen becomes unresponsive, there are a few possible explanations.

Possible Fixes:

  • Try selecting Power Off and Restart while holding down the Power key. Maintaining pressure on the Power key will force your LG phone to restart if the screen isn’t responding after several attempts. However, it is unlikely that this will solve your LG phone’s problem permanently.
  • Get everything in order and make sure it’s current. Go to Settings > General > About Phone > Update Center > Software Update in order to ensure that the LG phone is up to date with the latest software. Open the Play Store, then tap the three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner to access the menu. After that, go to My Apps & Games and hit Update All in the upper right corner of your screen.
  • Go to Settings > General > Storage & USB, select Cached Data, and then click OK to remove the data.
  • Look for anything using an unusually large amount of memory under Settings > General > Memory > Memory used by apps. If you’re having issues, it may be because you’re using an app that isn’t up to par. When the Safe Mode window appears, you can also hold down the Power button while tapping and holding the Power Off button. If the issue is resolved after running your LG phone in safe mode, you’ve identified the culprit as a third-party app. Either test your phone by uninstalling apps one by one or perform a factory reset and then reinstall apps one by one.
  • To perform a factory reset, go to Settings > General > Backup & Reset > Factory Data Reset after backing up your data.

[FIXED] LG phone proximity sensor not working

Proximity sensor problems have plagued some LG phone owners, preventing them from using the phone while they’re on a call or keeping the display off after they’ve ended a call.

Possible Fixes:

  • Consider replacing or not using a screen protector at all. According to most reports, screen protectors made of tempered glass are the source of the problem because they cover the sensor.
  • Download an app like AIDA64 to see if there is a problem with the actual sensor. Look for the Proximity Sensor in the Sensors section. Hold your hand over the phone’s sensor, and the app should display different values indicating how far/close your hand is to the sensor.
  • The sensor should be recalibrated. You can do so by dialling “*#546368#*[phone model number]#” and then selecting Device Test > SAAT > Service Menu Manual Test > Key Press Test > Cal Start.
  • If the problem persists after attempting the solutions listed above, you may need to contact LG, your carrier, or your retailer to obtain a replacement device.

[FIXED] LG Phone Camera not working

In some cases, the LG phone’s camera may suddenly issue a “Warning: Camera Failed” message or something similar after an unspecified amount of time or after an update has passed. After this, the camera will no longer function.

Potential Fixes:

  • Navigate to the Camera App in the Application Manager settings. Select Force Stop, then Clear Data, then Clear Cache.
  • Remove the Cache Partition from the drive. The notification bar can be dragged down. Tap Yes when prompted to clear the cached data in Settings > General > Storage. After clearing the cache, there will be little or no information displayed.
  • Your LG phone needs to be restarted. To restart your phone, press and hold the power button for several seconds. Remove the battery, then reinsert it.
  • It is time to restore your device to its factory settings. To begin, create a backup of all of your important data. Go to Settings > General > Backup & Reset > Back Up My Data to perform this task. Tap Backup Account and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a Google backup account if you haven’t already. You can use a backup to restore your data by following the steps outlined here by Verizon. Go to Settings > General > Backup & Reset > Factory Data Reset in order to perform a factory reset.
  • Contact LG, your carrier, or a retailer to inquire about a replacement phone if you continue to have camera issues.

[FIXED] LG Phone Can’t connect to Internet

Many LG phone owners have reported being unable to connect to Wi-Fi, which is a common issue with today’s smartphones. When they do connect to the network, it is slow and eventually drops out.

Potential Fixes:

  • To remove your current Wi-Fi connection, go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi and tap Forget. To see if the performance has improved, re-add it.
  • Reset the network settings. Go to Settings > General > Backup & Reset > Network Settings Reset in order to reset your network settings. If you do this, you’ll have to re-enter all of your Wi-Fi passwords and create new profiles.
  • Go to Settings > General > About phone > Update Center > Software Update > Check now for update. Make sure your device is up to date.
  • It’s time to restart your modem or router.

[FIXED] LG Phone Fingerprint scanner not working

The fingerprint scanner has been reported to be unusable by a few users of LLG smartphones. Some cases, such as those from Spigen and VRS Design, have been reported to interfere with the feature.

Potential Fixes:

  • Consider purchasing another case that will not interfere with the fingerprint scanner.
  • Delete your existing fingerprint scans and replace them with new ones. To begin, clean the scanner and the area around it to reduce the possibility of a bad scan or failed attempt. Tap Settings > General > Fingerprints & Security > Fingerprints > Enter Pin > Add Fingerprint. Consider adding new prints while the case is still on the phone so that your phone can learn which positions your fingers will be in when using the phone with a case.
  • If the problem persists, it could be a hardware problem that you are unable to resolve on your own. Contact LG, your carrier, or a retailer to inquire about a replacement device.

[FIXED] LG Phone Bluetooth won’t connect or drops connection

Problems with the LG phone’s Bluetooth accessories and in-car systems have been reported numerous times. Some users are unable to connect at all, while others complain of frequent disconnections or terribly poor audio quality as a result of their experience.

Possible Fixes:

  • Make sure you’ve followed the pairing instructions to the letter. Your Bluetooth accessory may need to be discovered or put into pairing mode in order for it to be used.
  • Try deleting old Bluetooth profiles from your car or accessory’s system. A limit may have been reached.
  • Take a look at the “Software Update” section of your LG phone’s Settings > General > About phone.
  • Check with your Bluetooth car system or accessory manufacturer for a firmware update.
  • Look at Smart Settings under Settings > General > Smart settings and make sure none of your profiles are interfering.
  • Once the problem profiles are deleted, you can start over with a new Bluetooth connection.
  • In Settings > General > Backup & Reset, you can also reset all of your network settings, but you’ll have to set up profiles and your Wi-Fi all over again.
  • As a last resort, you could perform a factory reset. Go to Settings > General > Backup & Reset > Factory Data Reset to perform a factory reset.
  • You should contact LG, your carrier, or your retailer if the problem persists after a factory reset.

[FIXED] LG Phone GPS not working

There has been a problem with some LG phone owners getting their GPS to work properly. As a result, the connection may drop frequently or it may not be able to update at all. As long as you’re out and about and not in an enclosed area, your GPS should be able to find you. In order to determine if the problem is with your LG phone, try to use a different device.

Potential Fixes:

  • To begin, pull down the notification shade and swipe along until you find Airplane Mode. Switch it on and then off. Put your GPS to the test.
  • If you have a case on your LG phone, remove it and see if the GPS works better.
  • Check Settings > General > Location > Mode to ensure that High Accuracy (GPS and Networks) is enabled. If this is the case, you may want to try Device Sensors Only (GPS Only) to see if it makes a difference.
  • Install the GPS Status & Toolbox app for free. It will provide you with additional information and allow you to update your A-GPS data.
  • Examine the settings of any app you’ve installed that makes use of the GPS function.

It may be an update to your device, but it sounds unusual because no device is allowed to update its firmware when the device battery is running below 30% anyhow, unless you clicked on Update Now button that time, and plugged it into charging.

  1. If it’s an update, wait some time as you told your device is dead that means system has downloaded that file before turned off. So it will automatically install its firmware.

  2. In the worst case, you may need to install a very new firmware manually but before continue to install new firmware try this:

    • Press Power + Volume up + Home simultaneously until Samsung logo appears.

    • It may take time to show up recovery menu. In recovery menu you will see option as Reboot.

    • Press Home button by going to reboot option through Volume up button.

If this was a temporary problem, you could use your device now.

A few days ago my LG K30 got stuck on the firmware update screen all of a sudden. I did a force restart to boot it again. However, I realized whenever I’m connecting it to my computer it again goes to the firmware update screen. This was quite frustrating. After doing a little research I was able to fix my phone.

In this post, we are going to learn how to fix an LG K30 stuck on the firmware update screen –

There are 2 possibilities for your K30 getting stuck in the Download Mode / Firmware Update Screen –

1. All of a sudden may be due to a Battery issue

lg k30 stuck on firmware update screen

In my case, the phone rebooted every time to the above firmware update screen when connected to a computer.

At this stage, you’ll fail to reboot your K30 using the power button. We cannot turn it off even by removing the battery as it’s non-removable.

In such a case, the only option left is to force restart the phone.

lg k30 force restart

To force restart your K30, press the volume down and power button for 10 seconds or until the phone restarts.

lg k30 stuck on firmware update screen

While the phone is rebooting, release the power button but keep holding the volume down key.

lg k30 soft reset

Release the volume down button when you are on the K30 lock screen.

After doing this my K30 never got stuck to the firmware update screen until now.

2. Due to a failed System Update

Firmware update stuck lg k30

A failed android system update on your K30 can also bring you to the Firmware Update Screen.

During an update, the phone should not be interrupted at all. In some cases, the firmware file can also be corrupt.

Whatever is the reason, our first try should be a force restart.

Let’s try to force restart our K30 by pressing the Volume Down & Power button for 10 seconds.

If this brings your phone back to life, well and good, else we need to flash a firmware file via LGUP.
