Hi All,
Does anybody know how to fix this problem.

I hear ya,
this Buffer overrun detection is a ***.
I have XP Home Edition SP2 and managed to clear it for a few days doing a system restore, but it’s come back twice now. It renders IE6 & IE7 useless.
The call is out, does anyone know how to fix this problem?
-
I have fixed the problem on my P.C. (Win XP Pro SP2, IE7)
My overun error was caused by a DLL file that is a bad virus or trojan. As a Jpeg file, It was opened by my son on MSN.
It took me 4 days to work it out. It lives in the windowssystem32 folder. I tried 3 spyware programs & Norton Antivirus 2006 but the file kept coming back. I fixed the problem by downloading a Program called PrevX1,at no cost with a trial period of 1 month.
Go to http://www.prevx.com/
Download and run it, It worked for me.
I am sorry I have forgotten the file name but it changes itself a few times.
My problem caused windows explorer to crash and IE to go crazy at times loading up new pages very fast.

I have found it and put it in reclycle bin for now but mc afee still allerts me. I have tryed the above two programs and it found nothing wrong. I have also used housecall and my virus program. So how to stop the allert i don’t know. I got the web site in a mail and went to it from there the link on this note, but when i typed it on google it wont let me visit that site. I am sure thats what cause it.

I have had my itunes quit running. After two days of messing with it I discovered that Quicktime was deleted.(I didn’t do it ). I went in to re-install the stand alone QT and it is telling me that it is missing files. When I open the properties I get the Buffer Overrun detected.
I have run Norton (which I recently removed from my system, after all this happened) didn’t help. I have also run AdAware, Reg Clean, Housecall, and PreVX. It finds nothing.
Can anyone give me any other help?
-
My iTunes stops working as well! it will begin to play about the first two minutes of a movie, and then it says its been overrun. Same exact thing with QuickTime. and i literally tried ALL the software on this page and ALL of them have found nothing. I tried closing processes, defraging my computer, restarting, hell, i even hit the damn thing and… nothing
-
Thank you Kim,
This also worked for me!!!! I decided to pay the $24.95 for the program and receive daily updates.
Not sure why I am paying for McAfee as it couldn’t find any issues and appears to be worthless!!!!!!

I had same problem with WinXP SP2 IE6
error message:
«Microsoft visual C++ Runtime library
Buffer overrun detected!
Program C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerIexplore.exe
A bufer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program’s internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated»Computer was clean from viruses, trojans etc. I searched for days for the solution, installed IE7, still same error.
One thing i found is, that some IE toolbars seems to cause this problem. So started to uninstall these external IE toolbars. 1st one i removed was dict.cc (a translator toolbar) and it fixed the problem. Hope someone finds this info usefull. -
Eli Shalom,
Many thanks for your suggestion — for me it did the trick.
All the others did not find anything wrong.
-
Hi,
Eli — thank you!
This worked like a charm!
I had the same error whenever I tried to reply using outlook 2003. (it gave me the path to C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11WINWORD.EXE)
hope it will not bother me again.

Well i have been doing some research, and i now know what is meant by the error displaying Buffer Overrun Error.
Basically, the problem is that there are A NUMBER OF VIRUSES on your computer, they are mostly spyware, and are part of a virus group called VUNDO. i dont know what VUNDO means but you know what i mean. I will keep you all updated on this. and what will be used best against these viruses.
these viruses are not potentially harmul, they are basic spyware which are over rulling your command to your camputer.
Obvious signs of this are:
— A massive number of pop-ups stating that you should download a free spyware check. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT OPENING ONE OF THESE, AS THESE ARE THE VIRUSES IT SELF TRYING TO INPUT MORE INTO YOUR COMPUTER.
-Errors stating that you have a virus.
-Do Not Bother Using AVG or AVAST anti-virus to find viruses mentioned. these viruses are 2008 viruses and will not be detected by a standard update of your old anti virus.Do Not Email, just Instant message me, thank you.

I spent 24 hrs downloading sp2 package for my dell 2003 xp, with only 256 ram and 40 gig drive and was 67% into the download when my mcafee shut down my computer, then when i rebooted, i started to recieve a buffer overload everytime i would restart. also when i tried downloading any song samples, they would not run, but only for 3 or 4 sec at a time, until the buffer regained enough space to continue, once again, 3 or 4 seconds, until it was done. i have ran my fix errors program, and defraged, Please help, Question? Does anyone now why my buffer has filled up and wont return to its original memory.

Hey, how did you get rid of Vundo completely? I thought I got rid of it but it’s back. I use symantec antivirus 10.1.6 with regularly updated definitions. I also ran ad aware and spybot. This has spread to two other computers on the network.
Please advise?!

What is this and how do I correct it?

I am a simple person, i need few steps to understand how to do what you suggest.
I have a buffer overrun that corrupts my C:Program Filesprogramfilesmicrosoft officeoffice11win.exe
this happens when writing in Spanish in office 2003 English version. It corrupts inC:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedPROOF the files mssp3es.dll and mssp3es.lex both in charge of spellcheck and dictionary. Same thing happened to Microsoft with Hebrew version 2003, and they made a hotfix. But Microsoft is deaf or blind to what is happening to Spanish spellcheck. If I remove mssp3es.dll or mssp3es.lex, I can write but without the spellcheck. BUT, who knows where the buffer overrun hides. The first time I had it was buffer overrun with IE7.
Could you explain in simple words how to change the Proof to proof.old and do I do it through the Window explorer or elsewhere. Do you know how to find where the overrun is located? HELP!! HAZILU!!

I’m getting the same problem:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
«Buffer Overrun Detected!
Program C:WindowsExplorer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program’s internal state.
The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.»
Now I cannot connect to the internet because of this error. I’ve talked to Mirosoft, Gateway, & DSL people, to no avail. I’m not a programer trying to load any software I’m just trying to do the very basic things like login & read my mail. I’m out of options at this point, my next move is to call home service «the Geeks». Can anyone help direct me to someone/support to help me rid me of this error msg? Maybe I’m not using the correct keywords to get the help I need when I call support, other than the error msg. I have one computer w/ two ID/users & this error only apprears on just one ID, not the other. THANKS

Since you are not the programmer that wrote the software you are asking about, this is not the forum to get help. I am sorry we can’t help but there are newsgroups and other forums where this question would be appropriate.
Buffer overrun detected problems may occur when software that is coded in C or C++ permits unsafe data. This problem happens with all operating systems, but it is particularly common on Windows operating systems. The unsafe data that is introduced externally can exploit vulnerabilities in software or cause program crashes. This can permit malicious software to enter and harm the computer.
Buffer overrun detected error messages should be corrected as soon as possible to ensure that greater security issues do not arise. Follow the instructions below to solve the buffer overrun detected problem.
Instructions to Solve Buffer Overrun Detected Problem
There are a few steps to follow in order to fix the buffer overrun detected problem. Users need a moderate skill level to solve the problem via this method and most users should be able to do so. These steps can only be performed on Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows XP.
