Ошибка joomla cannot write to log file

Hello,

I try to upgrade my Joomla! environment from version 3.6.2 to 3.6.4.

When I click on the button «Joomla! 3.6.4 is available: Update now» of the control panel of my Joomla admin environment and then I click on the button named «Install the update» with the installation method «Write files directly», I receive a page telling me this: «An error has occurred. 0 Cannot write to log file.»

I have never had such a situation although I use Joomla for years.

I went to different sites to find a solution to the issue, but nothing works.

I checked the permissions on the folders /home/mysite/www/logs and /home/mysite/www/tmp. They are both set to 666. I also tried with 777, but nothing works. When, in my Joomla admin environment, I go to the page «System Information» > «Folder Permissions», I see that the folders names «/home/mitservifc/www/logs (Log folder)» and «/home/mitservifc/www/tmp (Temp folder)» are «Unwritable» whatever I do with the permissions via cPanel.

My configuration file «configuration.php» file seems to be perfectly correct, i.e. the names perfectly match the names mentionned in the cPanel of my site.

I do not see what to do to progress with this issue.

Could somebody help me ?

Hello,

Thanks to the recommendations of AMurray and leolam to apply both the set of permissions 755 to the folders and go in search of the absolute path of my site, I succeeded in installing the version 3.6.4 of Joomla!.

I have the same message for this site:

The ‘logs’ folder permission in the administration folder is set to 755
The following files are inside this logs folder…
error.php
index.html
joomla_update.php
And all of these permissions are set to 644.

Is there something else I can do to enable the 3.6.4 update procedure.

Could you run the FPA Report on your joomla installation — script available at this link:
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=621&t=582860

Once you run the script it should produce its report in a format suitable for this forum, you can post the results into a new reply. This will give an overview of your joomla installation and basica detail about your hosting environment.

Hi All,

I spent this afternoon dealing with this exact issue, after performing a fresh install.

I followed the hardening guidelines, file permissions, edits to php.ini, etc, and while that was good to do, it didn’t solve anything.

I took a walk, and returned … and voila!

The login to my site is asking for «Username» … my browser was pre-filling the page with my email address.

Once I put in the username (which looks quite like my email) … everything worked.

Hopefully you will benefit from my mistake.

When someone attempts to log into the administrator using incorrect login info, Joomla logs that attempt in its log file.

However, if the file can’t be accessed or written into, the error is generated.

There are two main reasons that the file can’t be accessed or written to:

1. Incorrect $log_path setting in Joomla’s configuration.php file
2. Folder and file permissions aren’t set up correctly

How to fix the problem

• Edit the configuration.php file and make sure your logs file is properly set to the absolute path. The logs folder is in the root of your Joomla site, so you can use the location of the configuration.php for its path as well and add «logs» to the end. Pro tip: as an alternative, you can set it to «administrator/logs» instead.
• If that doesn’t resolve the issue, make sure the folder exists (if it doesn’t, create it). Then ask your host to fix the folder and file permissions for the site. It will take them a few minutes to do that.
• If the configuration file is correct and the folder permissions are correct, make sure there is enough disk space available. If the website runs out of space available in the hosting account, it will cause this error.
