Error 46: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX

Hello all,

I have had this error as a long time problem. I have tried everything I can find here and on the web over the last 6 months or so trying to fix it. I just spent 4 hours taking ownership of registry keys and subkeys (separately, they would not allow me to propagate the ownership downwards) so I could delete them after uninstalling Quicktime on Windows 8 64 bit. I have a QT Pro license that I need to use and feel like there is no hope getting this install to work. After removing all of the broken keys I reinstalled QT and have the same error.

Previous versions worked fine. Then I had one of those update reminders (earlier this year) and went ahead and let it install. Normally I ignore them, worried that something like this might happen. Well, it hasn’t worked since. It seems to have broken ownership and permissions on dozens of registry keys. No exaggeration, dozens. I can see from searching the web that this is a long standing problem that some have found a fix for but that fix does not work for me. The reset.cmd routine looked promising, but failed. I followed all of the directions word for word except the part about setting the reset.cmd file to run in compatibility mode. I do not have a compatibility tab on .cmd files like I do for the subinacl.exe file. I am the administrator of the computer and I am the only user.

Does anyone have any suggestions, and is Apple going to do anything to fix this problem that has affected so many people so future installs work?

      I recently updated my Quicktime and when I then ran the program, I would get the error in the title of this post.  I first tried solving the problem myself and came to understand that this was a registry issue and that permissions were not being
    given for Quicktime to talk to the ActiveX controls.  I have tried 2 different scripts run through subinacl.msi per misc. forums including
    http://wstec.net/f-cking-apple-bug/ but it didn’t work.  I am wondering if this is still the suggested fix for this problem and that maybe I am doing something wrong or whether you might have a better
    suggestion.  I spent quite a bit of time with Apple on the phone and even though the last tech I talked to was very helpful, it ultimately fell out of scope for their involvment.  Since this is a Windows registry issue,  I was hoping this was
    something you were familiar with and was within scope for Microsoft.  I use quicktime on an editing system which utilizes the software in combination with a Black Magic capture card to output video from After Effects to an external playback monitor which
    is crucial for playback to client.  If you could help at all it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Are you using IE9? If so how about looking at the Address bar. Do you see a blue icon to the right of the URL. Click on it and you should be able to turn off ActiveX filtering. That is if you already have the ActiveX installed.

    If the activeX was not installed properly then make sure you do that. You could try ensuring you can run and install ActiveX through your browsers Advances settings. Check the check box to allow Active to run.

Переустановить пробовал? С айтьюнса/дров с фотика/интернета взять можно.

У меня та же самая ошибка. Сейчас как раз ищу с чем это может быть связано. Переустановку ещё не пробовала. ОС: Windows 7, x32
