Escape from Tarkov is randomly crashing to desktop with an Unity error code. Players encounter this error code while launching the EFT or in the middle of the game. If you are struggling with this issue, you can find possible solutions for this problem below.

Method #1

There may be a problem with the computer’s drivers. You should update your Bios driver, other drivers and your OS. You can find the drivers on the official website of your motherboard.

You can repair the game files. It might work.

• Launch BSG Launcher.
• At the top right, click on your ID.
• Hit the «Integrity check«

Install or repair the .Net Frameworks.

If you are using an antivirus software, disabling it may work. I suggest you try that.

If you’re experiencing the same crash even though you tried them all, you should uninstall the game and reinstall it.

1. Make sure that your PC meets the approximate system requirements of the game.
2. Run the launcher as administrator and set full rights for the current user (folder properties, ‘Security’ tab) for the game folder and for the launcher folder.
3. Temporarily turn off all antivirus, security programs and firewall, including Windows Defender and all its features.
4. Check the integrity of game files through the launcher. Please, click on the little arrow pointing downwards right of the ‘Online’ profile status and, in the menu that appears, click on ‘Integrity check’.

1. Go to the Programs section of the Control Panel in Windows, search Escape from Tarkov, right click and press ‘Uninstall’. Then, please, download the game through your profile page and fresh install it.
2. Try downloading and installing the latest version of Microsoft .NET Framework. In the link provided, please download the recommended version and follow the instructions provided in the installer.
3. Install all Windows updates available in the Update Center.
4. Install the latest drivers for all your devices.
5. Check the system disk and game disk with the utility Chkdsk.
1. Open command prompt by clicking Start and typing “cmd”, please use right click and “Run as Administrator”.
2. Type chkdsk X: (where X is a drive with OS installed) in the black console and press the key.
3. If there are errors found, please repair them following the instructions provided in this link.
4. Do the same manipulations, typing instead of “X” the disc drive where the game is installed.

THE GAME IS CRASHING WITH A UNITY ERROR CODE

Please, follow the next steps and try to rerun the game after each one of them:

5. Set the swap file minimum and maximum valours to x1.5 the amount of RAM your PC has and always to a maximum of 30-50 GB. Please, make sure the swap file is only located in just one of your drives (SSD type). For further information, please consult the Microsoft tutorial.
6. Disable any overclocking configured in your PC (CPU, GPU or RAM).
7. Check that the XMP profile is configured correctly in the BIOS of your PC. Please, refer to the motherboard manufacturer manual for specific details on memory overclocking, as it may change from product to product.
8. Do a clean installation of the latest version of your GPU drivers, delete the current versions using DDU software.
9. Try a clean boot to discard that any other program is interfering with the game process.

If the issue persists, please create a ticket via the launcher and add log files. Also, please add crash logs placed at %LocalAppData%TempBattlestate GamesEscapeFromTarkovCrashes

THE PC IS HAVING A BSOD AND/OR REBOOTING ITSELF

Please, cautiously follow the next steps and check if the issue persists after each one of them:

1. Remove any overclocking of your PC components.
2. Update the drivers of all your PC components.
3. Install all Windows updates available in Update Center.
4. Update BIOS and motherboard drivers to the latest version.
5. Clean your PC components from dust and dirt that can lead to overheating. Please, make sure that all PC components are not overheating.
6. Check Windows Event Log in order to find any related issues in the OS. You can learn how to review those errors in the Microsoft tutorial along with its fixes. If you need assistance with the process, please contact a local IT. This information can also be useful for further troubleshooting with Microsoft support service.
7. Check that your PSU is correctly running and there is not any connection problem in the cables.
8. If you have recently installed any new component, please check if it is correctly installed or properly working, try using the previously installed one. Search for expert local IT assistance if it is needed for this operation.

So I’ve been battling the Unity crashing bug since the 12.10 update was released. Some of the fixes I tried but to no avail:

• Rollback Windows updates

• Rollback Nvidia driver updates

• Update BIOS

• Reinstall Tarkov

• Increase Windows pagefile size (30GB+)

I began scrolling through Unity forum posts about the bug to better understand the patterns of the issue. It seems the issues can occur on any brand of GPU, processor and Windows combination, making me presume its a software-based issue with Tarkov’s implementation of Unity.

Last week I read a Unity thread about the inefficient use of RAM and GPU in Tarkov. In the thread some users reported instances where underclocking their CPU or Radeon GPU helped prevent the crashing issue. This leads me to believe its some type of over-utilisation or performance management issue.

Finally I seem to have fixed it after testing the following combination of steps.

Here’s my EFT Unity crashing fix for Nvidia GPUs

1. Open the BSG Launcher, click on user settings (top right) and Clear Cache.

2. Again in the BSG Launcher, click on user settings (top right) and run the Integrity Check.

3. Open Windows Start menu, type in «Nvidia control panel» and open the application.

   1. Under 3D Settings, click on Manage 3D Settings.

   2. In the Global Settings panel, scroll to Power Management Mode and change the setting to Prefer Maximum Performance.

   3. Save settings.

4. Run Tarkov

Hello, this is an issue not only I have, but pretty much everyone who plays this game on linux. I and many other people tried a lot of different wine and dxvk configurations (discussed here (reddit) or here (official forums), there is also a small discord server with a few people who tried a lot of things). We have a few (crash) logs, I only have 4 (I had to reinstall my whole system and lost all the other ones, sadly, but the errors are the same as in the logs from other people). I am not really experienced with all that yet, sorry. I know there are other people who posted about that issue here that know a lot more than me, so maybe they could provide some more information.

The game often crashed when the map loads or a few seconds after that, but not always. It crashes more often on maps with a lot of objects (like a mall with a lot of trash and goods laying around everywhere or just a really huge map). What I recognized is that it often crashed for me near areas where a lot of occlusion culling is going on and where there are a lot of occlusion culling issues even on windows. The fps is really bad at the beginning of a round, but that is also an issue on windows (maybe worth mentioning though?) and it usually doesn’t crash after it worked fine for a few seconds (maybe up to a minute).

I ran an apitrace on windows because I was told this is what I should do. It took two whole days to complete (started the game, loaded into the map where it often crashed on linux and left shortly after that. No alt+f4, I exited via ingame buttons etc.). I used the dlls found here. I pasted the files d3d10.dll, d3d10_1.dll, d3d10core.dll, d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll into the directory where the exe is located and ran apitrace.

Linux distros where the issue occured: Arch linux, debian 9/10, fedora and many more used by other people who experienced crashes.
Tested with and without lutris. Tested pretty much all runners available in lutris from 3.something up to ge 4.10 protonified. Also tested with custom wine versions (4.12 tested by me, for example. 4.something by someone else). Tested with DXVK 0.9.something up to 1.3. Other people tried even older versions, but I don’t know which ones exactly.

The system I used for my linux testing (debian 10, cinnamon desktop):

• CPU: Intel Pentium G4560
• GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
• Driver: Closed-source 430.something
• Ram: 2x4GB DDR4

The system I used for the apitrace (windows 10 enterprise ltsc):

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
• GPU: Radeon VII
• Driver: Radeon Software 19.6.1
• RAM: 4x8GB DDR4 3000 CL15

That’s quite odd issue that I’ve been trying to troubleshoot for the previous couple of days. Mind me being beginner, so it may be something obvious I’m missing.

Escape from Tarkov runs generally without issues on DXVK, but I am trying to see if it’ll run on 4 GB for the friend of mine. The PC I tested it have 16 GB of RAM (2x 8 GB), so I used the mem=4G kernel parameter to limit my RAM, and gave Linux 8 GB swap partition. The game generally runs fine in menu and in the small «Factory» map, but when loading bigger «Customs» map, the game starts to use more than 4 GB of RAM (it’s 64-bit executable), swap is slowly being filled when the map load, but the Unity crashes with the attached error when the map finishes loading, timer goes to «0» and actual gameplay tries to load. It only happens with DXVK – the game loads on Windows and Wine’s D3D11 using swap, only stutter is more noticable obviously because of the swap being used instead of RAM.

I tried all kind of settings, including setting vm.swappiness=100, zswap.enabled=1 zswap.compressor=zstd zswap.max_pool_percent=100 zswap.zpool=z3fold kernel parameters for zswap, I run the game on separate X server, so there’s nothing running in the background except st htop (for monitoring), xorg, systemd and the game itself (running on ALSA), I’ve read through entirety of #747 and tried all the tweaks, including:

1. Modify /etc/tmpfiles.d/local.conf to disable Transparent Huge Pages entirely:

w /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled - - - - never
w /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag - - - - never

1. Fiddling with dxvk.conf, including

dxgi.maxDeviceMemory = 1024
dxgi.maxSharedMemory = 1024

to limit GPUs memory below 4 GB (this PC runs NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 960 with 4 GB VRAM) and/or

dxvk.allowMemoryOvercommit = True

to allow using more memory, and various other dxvk.conf variables. I also tried DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0, but it didn’t help.

I use the tkg’s PKGBUILD with DXVK embedded, running the latest master of everything, and I’m now in the process of building nvidia-all from it to see if it changes anything. I didn’t try using custom kernels, but I doubt it will change anything (I’m running stock 4.20.3.arch1-1 kernel from Arch’s repos).

I can’t test whether it’s the mem=4G kernel parameter that’s causing issues and whether the game would ran fine with regular 4 GB of RAM, as I don’t own a 4 GB DDR3 stick.

It’s also worth noting that the game also runs fine on my 16 GB RAM with AMD’s Radeon RX480 with 8 GB VRAM rig, but limiting RAM to 4GB hangs my CPU as I don’t have swap at all.

Is there anything I can do to make it use swap and prevent it crashing with 4 GB? Will it crash on physical 4 GB too and I am forced to run this particular map on Wine’s D3D11 renderer? Thanks in advance for any pointers :). I’ll let you know if I find something new too, and will try to get my hand on a working 4 GB RAM stick to hopefully test it proper.

Since the game launches with dedicated launcher, there’s also BsgLauncher_d3d11.log, BsgLauncher_dxgi.log, CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess_d3d11.log and CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess_dxgi.log, but the launches closes as soon as the game’s launched, so it shouldn’t matter, but I can attach them if needed.

I generally launch with export WINEDEBUG=-all especially since when I tried to launch it with reverse export WINEDEBUG=+all the game didn’t want to run. Wine generally does not crashed too, but it did once and allowed me to save the backtrace.txt, so I can upload it too.
